Educational Initiative

In June 2008 IME joined the The "Educational Initiative for Central and Eastern Europe"

(EICEE) as a partner institute.


The "Educational Initiative for Central and Eastern Europe"
(EICEE) is a non-profit 501 (c)3, non-denominational foundation with offices in Virginia (USA), Vienna (Austria) and Prague (Czech Republic).

EICEE's goal is to foster and strengthen free, just and democratic societies in the nations of Central and Eastern Europe.

As its name indicates, EICEE's primary field of activity is education. Each year EICEE grants hundreds of scholarships to highly-qualified students, professionals and academics to participate in events which contribute to their on-going educational and professional competence.

These take the form of conferences and seminars, as well as extended courses, at which concepts and principles are examined that have proven historically important to the establishment of free, ethical and just societies.

EICEE is also involved in the translation and publication of books, texts and monographs in topics dealing with the structures and principles of civil society. Literature which would otherwise not be available in the languages of Central and Eastern Europe.

The work of EICEE is largely carried out by the Neuwaldegg Institute in Vienna and the Civic Institute in Prague.


EICEE Institutes

The work of the Educational Institute for Central and Eastern Europe is carried out by a growing network of institutes, think-tanks and affiliated organizations.

The Institute for Democracy and International Security (EICEE Budapest) purpose is to carry out research and public education on the challenges facing transitional democracies.

The Institute for Market Economics (EICEE Bulgaria) is the first and oldest independent economic policy think tank in Bulgaria. Its mission is to elaborate and advocate market-based solutions to challenges citizens of Bulgaria and the region face in reforms.

The Foundation for the Investigation of Communist Crimes (EICEE Estonia) is to diffuse knowledge and increase international understanding of the crimes against humanity conducted by violent communist regimes across the globe in different times.

The mission of Ohrid Institute (EICEE Macedonia) is to provide the Macedonian public and political institutions with alternative perspectives on economic and foreign policy issues. Their work is based in the universal ideals of democracy, individual responsibility, free markets and entrepreneurship.

The Civic Institute (EICEE Prague) , a recipient of the Templeton Freedom Award, has been educating through courses, seminars and publications since 1991. It is recognized as a powerful opinion maker in Prague (Czech Republic) and it is making lasting contributions to the democratic efforts of the Czech Republic.

The Neuwaldegg Institute (EICEE Vienna) has granted hundreds of scholarships to students and academics in the CEE nations to attend its programs. It has also carried its educational curriculum to prestigious universities throughout the region. It continues to serve as powerful bridge between East and West and a gathering center for the enitre CEE region.

The Educational Initiative for Central and Eastern Europe (EICEE - Washington) office serves as the base for the Educational Initiative for Central and Eastern Europe’s operations in the United States.
