Privatization and Post-Privatization as a Type of Industrial Policies - In order to examine the role of the core executive in the privatization process in Bulgaria, this report is divided into three parts. The first contains background information and relevant data concerning the country's privatization programs and highlights some features, which, according to our sources, most characterize it . Based on an overview of the political background within which the institutional structures and procedures for privatization have been designed and developed, the second part illustrates the constellation of core executive actors and institutions involved in privatization, their policy styles, the resources that they have at their disposal and the constraints under which they operate. The concluding section highlights some overall patterns of Bulgaria's privatization process and summarizes our findings with regard to the role that the core executive plays within it. The third part deals with post-privatization matters. Principles of the Dialogue Between the Society, its Elected Representatives and the Government (in Bulgarian only). What Exists
is Possible: FDI Prospects and Policies in Bulgaria - Bulgarian
economy happened to be resilient to external shock, but more so after
the introduction of the currency board arrangement in 1997. It is not
simply a merit of the arrangement per se but, practically speaking, it
has helped to follow set of policies, which eventually offset negative
developments on the international markets. Aspects of
Land Consolidation in Bulgaria - The issue of
land consolidation is especially important for developing and post-communist
countries, where land consolidation presupposes implementation of a radical
land reform, involving various forms of land redistribution and land restitution.
Land consolidation is aimed at optimizing agricultural land use and is
usually pointed out as an important step in enhancing the agricultural
and environment-friendly development of a country. Rules, Regulations,

Economy in Bulgaria

and Forcasting, IME. Bulgarian GDP statistics using revenue approach give
growth rates 2 percentage points lower than the expenditure approach for

show 5.4% (1998) and 4.4% (1999). GDP growth, while official figure are
3.5% and 2.4%, respectively. This is evidence that there are underreported
incomes. It is of interest for statistical and economic policy purposes
to have more detailed information about the discrepancy between official
statistics and activities not covered by the official statistical system.
It is particularly interesting to know the size and structure of unreported,
hidden economic activities (shadow economy). The Economic
and Social Impact of Refugees on the Host Country: Bulgaria
- The objective of this report and the surveys upon which
it is based is to help rethink the role of refugees in Bulgaria and other
societies. The Bulgarian government has just adopted and is currently
implementing a new legal framework for dealing with refugees. This report
takes Bulgaria as a model country and aims to assess the impact of asylum
seekers and refugees. As one of the few such reports written, and the
first for Bulgaria, it is focused on the identification of costs related
to refugees as they apply to the refugees themselves, to government institutions
(not only those that deal exclusively with refugees but also those that
have more or less remote input to the refugee process), and to non-governmental
and international organizations. Mortgage
